Welcome to the Center for Teaching Excellence! The CTE was established in 2014 to consolidate educational development support within the university and, more broadly, to help cultivate and advocate for a vibrant culture of teaching at Boston College.Â
Staffed by six full-time professionals — all with doctoral-level training and a diverse range of experience teaching in higher education — along with a dynamic team of Graduate Assistants, the CTE serves all instructors at 51²è¹Ý: full-time and part-time faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, and instructional staff.Â
In line with best practices established by the field of , the CTE’s programs and services are formative, voluntary, and often confidential. CTE staff are not involved in promotion and tenure decision-making or other formal evaluations of teaching effectiveness. Instead, we support instructors in working towards their own pedagogical goals, however they’ve defined them.
The CTE works from the assumption that teaching excellence must be grounded in values of inclusion and belonging, since as educators, we are charged with creating learning environments in which all our students have the opportunity to thrive. We believe equally in faculty’s need to thrive and embrace as a radical commitment to prioritize human flourishing in all we do.
